Skin Boosters

Skin boosters’ are an injectable treatment that is designed to deliver deep skin hydration. They’re also sometimes referred to as injections for skin quality, as they promote a natural glow and radiance. This is a relatively new treatment concept which has become a lot more popular over the last few
years. It particularly appeals to patients who want to look fresh and natural with their anti-ageing treatments. Skin booster results don’t have the dramatic impact that can be associated with the better known non-surgical treatments. They don’t ‘freeze’ the features or stop muscle movement (like BOTOX® can), although they can help to smooth out lines and wrinkles. They won’t deliver exaggerated or over-inflated results like dermal fillers can, although they can add more subtle volume by gently plumping the skin.

Skin booster injections are a soft, gel-like substance called Hyaluronic Acid (HA). This is a substance that occurs naturally in the skin and holds incredible amounts of moisture. However, it depletes with age, which is what causes skin to appear lined or loose with a dryer texture. Microinjections of deeply hydrating hyaluronic acid restores the moisture in the skin, which improves its elasticity, firmness and radiance. It’s not really comparable to applying moisturiser – the injections can penetrate much deeper and last longer.

Skin Treatments

The most common uses of skin boosters are for facial rejuvenation. However, this is a versatile treatment that can be used to treat many different skin areas e.g. neck, décolletage, backs of the hands. They can also be used on difficult to treat areas, like tightening the skin under the chin (RRS), the upper inner arms, inner thighs, knees and abdomen. They are safe for all skin types, ages and genders. Depending on the treatment chosen, some of the potential benefits include:

More radiant complexion

Healthier skin tone

Reduction in visible lines and wrinkles

Tighter, lifted skin

Better hydration – a flattering ‘glow’

Firmer skin texture

Softer skin with more elasticity

Reduction in patchy pigmentation

The nature of skin boosters means that they are also ideal for use in combination with other treatments, providing a holistic boost to the skin which works very well alongside more focused treatments such as the 8 point face lift for a comprehensive and flattering result.

PDO Threads

Skin Treatments

FAQS

Threading is a safe and effective technique that involves introducing threads under the skin to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin. The threads are made of polydioxanone (PDO), which dissolve after 6 months and has a lasting effect for up to 2 years. These threads can be used in combination with botulinum toxin and fillers for best results. The threads have an immediate mechanical lifting effect and will continue to stimulate your own collagen over the next few months. Therefore the optimum results are expected 3 months later.

PDO threads have 4 major benefits:

1. Once inserted, the threads anchor the skin and lift it upwards.
2. Redefines facial curves and contours.
3. Skin rejuvenation and tightening through stimulation of collagen.
4. Improve skin texture.

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic and takes between 45-60 minutes.

Polydioxanone (PDO) is an extremely safe material used regularly in heart surgery, which encourages cell cohesion. PDO threads are absorbable and biodegrade after 6 months however the effect last for many more months.

There are two main categories of PDO threads:

1. Barbed PDO threads
2. Non-barbed PDO threads

Barbed PDO threads are strong threads with strong lifting capacity. They anchor the skin and lift it up. 4-8 threads on each side are needed.
Non-barbed PDO threads are fine threads with a small lifting capacity. There are used for skin tightening and rejuvenation, where skin lifting is not needed. These threads are much cheaper than barbed PDO threads. These PDO threads can be used where lifting is not needed and we will work by tightening the skin. For example, these are very useful in the arms and abdomen.

If you come across very cheap PDO threads treatments, this could be explained by the fact that cheap non-barbed PDO threads are being used, which has poor lifting capacity.

The face is covered with a numbing cream before being injected with a local anaesthetic. Once the local anaesthetic has taken infect, the PDO threads are introduced with minimal discomfort.

We use blunt cannula rather than needles to introduce PDO threads under the skin. Blunt cannulas avoid blood vessels and important structures, unlike sharp needles that would cut through them. Alongside a good technique, PDO threads are introduced with minimal risk of bruising.

The lifting results are instantaneous. However, the best results are obtained after 3 months as PDO threads also stimulate the production of collagen, which help to tighten and lift the skin.

PDO threads treatment can take between 30-60 minutes.

PDO threads effect should last up to 2 years depending on the quality of your skin and your lifestyle. It is best to have an annual review and repeat the procedure once a year if you would like to keep the lifting capacity at its peak.

PDO threads are very safe and complications are rare.
Swelling
Bruising and haematoma
Infection
Foreign body reaction
Injury to arteries or veins
Migrations of the threads
Facial nerve trauma
Asymmetry

Pain

Further treatment might be required to achieve the desired results

Keloid predisposition
Auto-immune disease

Dermaplaning Facial

Dermaplaning is the deepest form of manual exfoliation that consists of using a scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dead skin, resulting in a brighter, smoother complexion. It is beneficial to get this prior to other facial treatments or products as it allows for greater penetration and it creates a flawless canvas for makeup application. Perfect for your next night out.
As we age, out cell turnover decreases and this affects our skin texture and tone, Dermaplaning gently buffs the top layer of dead skin cells away and helps to reveal a brighter and smoother complexion
Immediately after treatment, your skin will look wonderfully radiant with a more even skin tone. An extra benefit is that dermaplaning removes ’peach fuzz’, which is the clear/white soft, fine facial hair. Your skin will feel the smoothest it’s ever been!

Skin Treatments

FAQS

Since this is a deeply exfoliating treatment, we recommend waiting at least a month between appointments, if you have sensitive skin you can limit your treatments to 4 times a year.

Following your dermaplaning treatment you may experience some redness on the treated areas accompanied by a warm glow. This will last for several hours but should have settled by the following morning.

Make-up should not be applied for at least 4 hours after your treatment. DO NOT pick, peel, scrape, scratch or wax your skin. Avoid abrasive sponges for 1 week after treatment. Avoid other cosmetic procedures without the specific guidance of your practitioner. Wash with a very mild soap, rinse with warm water and remember to moisturise regularly following the treatment as you may experience some dryness for a few days. Avoid sun-exposure and use a broad spectrum (UVA and UVB) sun-cream of at least SPF30. Avoid the use of any creams that are in any way irritating. Remember – cleanse, moisturise & protect!
